This museum is located at top of the hill along Jalan Istana, about 10 km from Sandakan Airport and 1km from Sandakan town. This house was rebuilt in 1946/47 and was the first government permanent timber dwelling to be built after the 2nd World War. It was occupied by Mr. Harry Keith, a Conservator of Forests with his wife, Agnes Newton Keith and their son, George.

In 2001, the Department of Sabah Museum in collaboration with the Federal Department of Museums and Antiquities began the task of restoration of the house. With the opening of the house on 26th April 2004, Sabah’s tribute to the award winning American authoress has come full circle. The book “Land Bellow the Wind” made Agnes Keith famous in 1939, and the book continues to make Sabah well known right up to this day.

The Agnes Keith house is furnished simply with reproduction of colonial furniture and genuine antiques. A gallery on first floor tells the story of this remarkable woman, her books and family. A Keith Time-line starts in 1873 and ends in 2004 tracing the past to the present Keith generation. War artefacts are also displayed.
